Memento Mori Genre Paintings

"Memento mori" means "remember death" in Latin. The Memento Mori painting genre has been around for hundreds of years and must include several elements - a human skull, books (traditionally a bible), a light source, a timekeeping device, and, often, faded flowers. These paintings are a portrait of a person told through still life with the acknowledgement that life is brief and precious.
